DEMAND SIDE MANAGEMENT
Energy Flexibility in general means Demand Side Management which is divided into Demand Response and Energy Efficiency.
Demand Response systems provide innovative control of flexible loads and distributed energy resources, which can adapt their electricity production or consumption. Energy Flexibility platforms could provide Demand Side Management functionalities as a modular solution for Energy Efficiency and Demand Response functionalities.
Today’s information technologies are being more and more used in the energy sector to provide efficient and stable energy supply. This is possible through control of various flexible loads and DER. It provides power demand for ancillary services and energy for energy balancing markets.
Demand Response is important because of the unpredictability of the consumption of prosumers, electric vehicles and electricity generation, especially from renewable sources. High unpredictability of the consumption and production of electricity is influenced by the accelerated time of digitalisation and electrification as a result of the sustainability and active reduction of carbon footprint in all areas. It also has an increasing impact on the stability of the functioning of the electric power system. It is important to easily connect with all types of energy loads and distributed energy resources, thus contributing to the more reliable operation of the electric power system, sustainability, lowering the carbon footprint, as well as providing optimal balancing of balance groups on the wholesale energy market.
