    MONITORING WATER CONSUMPTION IN COMPANY

Despite its apparent abundance, water is becoming an increasingly valuable resource, especially in light of the extreme weather conditions we’ve experienced in recent years. During heatwaves, water consumption rises significantly, placing a strain on water supply systems. This makes monitoring water usage—and promptly detecting leaks and other irregularities—critical to maintaining a stable water supply.

    WATER CONSUMPTION MONITORING

Traditional methods of measuring water consumption rely on manual water meter readings, which are time-consuming and prone to human error. Modern technologies offer significant advancements by enabling remote water consumption readings using smart meters. These meters provide automatic, accurate measurements and real-time data transmission. The systems incorporate wireless sensors and software for effective data management and analysis, allowing precise monitoring and the fast detection of anomalies such as leaks.

    LEAK DETECTION AND ALERTS

Detecting leaks in water supply systems is vital for preventing water loss and reducing associated costs. Leaks can result in significant water waste. In Slovenia, 51.5 million cubic meters of water were lost through the network in 2022—an increase of nearly 6.4% compared to 2021, according to official statistics.

A faucet that drips once per second can waste up to 25 liters of water per day. That’s around 10,000 liters a year—enough to fill 52 bathtubs.

Leak detection systems use various technologies, such as wireless sensors tailored for modern energy management. When a system identifies a potential leak, it automatically generates an alert, enabling rapid response and cost reduction.

    WHY WATER MONITORING MATTERS?

    • Sustainable Resource Use: Monitoring water usage enables better management and optimization of water resources—crucial in the face of climate change, which affects water availability.
    • Cost Reduction: Early detection of leaks and other issues helps prevent significant water losses, ultimately lowering company expenses.
    • Improved System Efficiency: Advanced monitoring systems allow for accurate data analysis, which can improve the performance of water networks and support better maintenance planning.
    • Environmental Impact: Lower water consumption and reduced losses help protect the environment by minimizing resource depletion and reducing the need for water treatment and distribution.

Monitoring water consumption is a key component in ensuring the sustainable use of water resources and improving the efficiency of water systems. In an era of climate change and increased extreme weather events, it is essential to implement modern technologies and solutions that enable better management and protection of this precious resource.
